He is by Scmnus, from Shrovetide, by St. Aubyu (imp), from Pancake ; by Sir Hercules, out of Pandora ; by Operator (imp); Somuus, by Tradnccr (imp) from Hammock (imp) ; Hammock by Orest, from Mother Neasham by Buccnecr. The breeding of his sire, Soinnus, need not be enlarged upon, as he descends (through both sire and*dam) from that great horse Eclipse, while his dam Shrovetide has the St Aubyn and Mr Hercnles strains to recommend her. Insomnia, besides winning several races, took first prize in 1895 both at Woodville and Palmerston North Shows, and in 1896 at Hawke's Bay he took second prize in the class best calculated to improve the breed of saddle horsi's, beating Black Rose, Burlington and Leontine. He also took three first prizes at the Bay of Plenty Agricultural Show, 1896. He has, therefore, got the beet of credentials to recommend him for the use if breeders.
