A contemporary says :—The following points'as to the customary rules of alotting salvage will give a general idea of the w<iy in which the award will be distributed :—' The shipowner's sharo of snhago award is chiefly determined by the value of the salving ship and risk jhe has ruu, and where the salving ship is a .steamer the owner's share is now generally three- fourths of the award. The nuu-ter generally obtains a special apportionment depending on the amount of responsibility he assumes in rendering the services. The officers and crew are generally awarded a lump sum, which is divided according to their rating. A passenger's sharo depends on his sharo of service rendered, and he may rate with an able seainaii io ceitaia oiroumstances.'
