METHODIST PARSONS AND POLITICS.
TO THE EDITOR, Sir, —ln reference to Mr Andrew's statement that a minister does not compromise his church unless he makes his pulpit a political platform. May I ask him if it is not a fact that Dr. Hnsking has not only used the church buildings at Hamilton for political purposes but also with the object of sowing discord amongst the Hamilton ratepayers or burgesses. On passing through Ngaruawahia a few days back I saw a notice posted on the Wesleyan Church that Dr. Hosking would address the electors therein on a certaiu day. I may also ask Mr Andrew whether it is not a fact that Dr. Hosking has placed at Ngaruawahia a particular friend of hie, who is not a Methodist minister, to take his place in the pulpit and. at the same time push his candidature. Will Mr Andrew also tell mo the meaning of the word " slopping," and if it is a Methodist word or one out of the slang dictionary- In conclusion, I ask whether it is not time that the Wesleyan Conference stepped in and put a stop to this discord before our churches are completely de3crtod.—l urn, etc., Anti-slang.
