CHESS MATCH.

The chess match, Hamilton v. To Aroha, was played on Wednesday evening last, at Te Aroha. The Hamilton players arrived about 4.30 p.m. and were met at the station by some of the local player?, who escorted them round to the different places cf interest. Wingfield, in a few appropriate words, thanked the Hamilton Club for the visit, that had resulted in such a pleasant evening, and, although Te Aroha had gone down, they would not be discouraged, and he hoped that next time the two teams met the result would be c'oser thin it was that night. Mr Stevens, on behalf of the Hamilton Club, suitably replied, pointing out that as the Te Aroha Club had only just recently come into existence, the result of their first match couM ,'not be considered unsatisfactory. He heartily thanked the Te Aroha players for the kind manner in which they had been received and looked after during their visit, and assured them that if they could travel to Hamilton to a return matter, the Hamilton Club would endeavour to repay the kindness.
