Te Awamutdites are looking forward to another “ Irg day ’’ on 9;h inst. (Prince of Wales’ Birthday), when athletic sports are to be held in the Domain, and the Flower Show and Fanoy Fete, in the Town Hall. Matters in connection with the latter are making good headway. At a meeting held the other evening a large working committee of ladies was elected and judges have since been appointed for the various classes of exhibits. The large number of special prizes donated has encouraged the Executive Committee to modify their rule (Rule 4 as printed on Schedule), so that competitors in any classes for special prizes will not now bo compelled to enter in other clas'es, where no special prizes are allotted. Many of the special prizes have been on view this week in the reading-room, and there is likely to be kqen competition for some of the valuable articles. Entries for the various classes clo?e with the Hon. Secretary (Miss Ida M. Vause) at 8 p.m., on Saturday, 4th inst. The show is to be opened by Mr F. W. Lang, M.H.R. (its Patron), at 12.30 p.m., and the Patronage of the Waikato Athletic and Cycling Club and the Pirongia Mounted Rifle Corps have been invited. The maypole dance by school children will be heM at intervals in the school close by, and to this and some of the other side shows a small extra charge will be made. Refreshments at moderate prices will be provided all day by the ladies of the Anglican Church (who so successfully catered last year), who have arranged also to have a stall for the sale of plain and fancy work. The baby show—which is exciting great interest—and other attractions will be held on the hall stage during the afternoon, and promenade concert and other exciting items daring the Should the weather prove fine the affair is bound to bo successful.
