THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL APPOINTMENTS.
(by telegraph.—press association). Wellington, Lasc Night. The Cabinet sat till past miduight considering the appointments to the Legislative Council. A difficulty, however, has arisen, the precise nature of which has not been disclosed, which prevented the final decision being arrived at. The Times states that this difficulty was with the Governor, but this the Premier says is not correct, and there was no hitch in that direction. The Cabinet meets again this afternoon and the appointments will then be finally decided. It is understood there will be no new ones. In order to get over the difficulty of having no Min ster to meet the Council today Hon. Walker resigned on Saturday and was re-appointed. He will be sworn in this morning. It is stated Col. Whifemore and Hon. Oliver also intend to resign their seats. Hon. Walker's resignation and re-ap-pointment to the Legislative Council were formally gazetted to-day.
