A large number of poultry came forward for this week's sale, and were all quitted at prices from Is 6d to Is 9d; vegetables, in small supply, at late rates. Regular weekly consignments of vegetables are badly required. Suppliers should forward by Monday'a train. AUCKLAND MARKETS.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) report :—Auckland Wool Stores, Septem20th. We had a good offering at our sale this week. Hides were cleared at late values. We quote : Stout ox, 5d to s|d ; heavy, 4sd ; light and medium, 3|d to 4Jd ; cow, 3fd to 4d ; calf, 4|d to sjd ; kip, 3jd to 4d ; tags, 2Jd to 3d. Sheep skins advanced 3d per skin. Large longwools, 3s 9d to 4a 8d : half-bred, 3e 6d to 4s 5d ; small and medium, 2s 9d to 3s 6d ; pelts, 8d ; lambs', 9d to Is 4d. Tallow : Best rendered, 16s to 17s 9d ; rough fat, Id to ljd. Horse and Cow Hair : Horse, 1b 2d to Is 4d ; cow, 9d to lid. Tails, Is lOd per dozen. Maize : Although shipments to hand this week were heavy, the market rose to 2s 3d on wharf, on account of Sydney buying at that price. Oatß are very firm at Is Bjd c.i.f. Potatoes have eased to £2 on wharf. Chaff is weak at £2 at the railway. Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons' Weekly Report.—At the Haymarket oaten sheaves, Is 6d ; meadow hay, Is 6d to 2s 9d cwt; straw, 20s to 25s load ; ohaff, 2s 3d; clover hay, 4s; bran, 3s 9d; pressed straw, 2s 6d ; pressed hay, 2s ; carrots, Is; guano, 3s 6d ; bonedust, 6s to 7s cwt; maize, 2a 5d ; feed oats, Is lid ; Dun oats, Is lOd ; white Tartar, 2s 3d bushel; maize on wharf, 2s 2d to 2s 3d bushel. There was a good demand for horse stock on Friday. Full number yarded, and with three exceptions all ■old. Prices for heavy draught ranged from £l7 to £27; medium draught, £ll to £23; spring cart, £l3; waggon, £25 ; gig, £6 15s. On Tuesday hides in increased number were at late values. Ox hides from 3fd to 4gd ; cow hides, 3|d to 4d; stags, 2sd to 3Jd ; kip, 3|d ; calf, 3Jd to 4}d lb; tallow, 183 to 19s 6d cwt; fat, \\A lb ; sheep pelts, better worth. Fresh pelts, 33 6d to ss; dry pelts, Is to 4s 2d each ; lockb and pieces, 2d to 4j-d ; hair, Is 3d lb. At Remuera, on Thursday, store cattle, in moderate supply, were without alteration in value. Dairy cattle, in usual number, were at late values. Those at profit were from £4 10s to £6 10s each. Calves, plentiful, kept their values. Young calve v 3s to 6s each ; medium, 9s to 15s; heavy calves, up to £1 12s. Fat cattle, received in excess of requirement, were at lower values, brought from 16s to 17s 1001 b. Prices for steers were from £5 to £9 2s 6d eaoh ; cows, £3 2s 6d to £6 ; 254 sold. Sheep, in short supply (1100 sold), were better worth. Wethers brought from 9s 6d to 17s each; ewes, 10s 3d to 14s. Lambs, short of requirements, were from 8s to 14s each. Pigs, in short supply, sold freely. Porkers, from £1 3s to £1 10s •aoh ; 60 sold. Messrs Hunter and Nolan's Re-port.-—Grain, seeds, horsefeed: The market has not been characterised by over activity. Sufficient quantities have been brought forward for requirements, and there has been no appreciable change in value. We quote : Maize, on wharf 2s 3d bushel, ex store 2s 6d to 2s 7d ; feed oats, Is lOd ; Dun oats, 2s ; Tartar oats, 2s to 2s 3d ; oaten chaff, at station £ll7s 6d to £2 ton, ex store £2 10s ; bran, £3 15s. Horses : There has been a steady demand for those of a good stamp at fully the previous week's values, and an average number changed hands. About the usual numbers were submitted by auction at the Durham Yards on Friday, for which there was steady competition for heavy draughts at from £ls 10a to £2B 10s each ; medium draught, £l2 to £22 15s ; light harness, £5 10s to £l2 10s ; hacks, £5 to £lO 17s 6d. Wool, hides, skins, tallow, bones: Again a good catalogue of hides was gone through at the Durham Yards. The demand was brisk up to previous values. Extra stout ox hides, 5d to s|d lb ; stout ox, 4|d to 4|d ; light and medium, 3|d to 4Jd ; cow, 3£d to 4d ; etag, 2£d ; kip, 3d to 3|d ; calfskins, 3£d to 4d ; bones, £3 ton ; tallow, 14s 6d to 17s 9d cwt; rough fat, If d'lb. Sheepskins, small, Is 5d to 3s 6d each ; large, 3s 8d to 4s 9d ; pelts, 3d to Is. Wool, fleece, in small parcels, 4sd to 5d lb. Cattle: The Newmarket Yards were well filled with all descriptions on Tuesday. Dairys were dull of sale, but stores kept late values. Fat cattle were yarded in larger numbers than usual, and barely kept last week's values. The quality throughout was excellent, more especially of the Waikato cattle. Oxen sold at from 17s to 19s 1001 b ; cow, 13s to 16s. We quote : Steers at from £5 10s to £9 15s each ; sows, £3 10s to £7 2s 6d. One draft of Waikato steers averaged £9 43. Dairy cows sold at from £'i 5s to £6 7s Cd ; dry cows, £1 19s to £2 lis ; grown steers, £4 to £5 2s. Sheep : The Newmarket Yarks were well filled on Tuesday, but showed on improvement in prices. Fat wethers sold at from 10s 3d to 18s each ; fat ewes, 9s 9d to 14s 6d ; shoru ewes, 8s 9d to lis 3d, one pen of extra good quality bringing Jos. Spring lambs brought from 9s 6d
to 13s. Pigs, scarce, and wanted. At Waiuku, on Saturday, there was a fair muster of cattle, and good demand at lata rates. HAWERA MARKETS The'Eomont Farmers' Union (Limited), report under date, Hawera, 16th September.—At Stratford on the Bth icist., a fair yarding of cattle came for-. j ward. Although the attendance was not large bidding was brisk, resulting in a fair amount of business being done: 18 months to two-year steers, £1 13s to £2 7s 6d ; fab cows, £3 to £3 16a ; dairy cows, £3 12s 6d to £5 ; dairy heifers, £3 to £4 12s 6d ; empty heifers, £2 Is to £2 6s 6d ; weaners, lis to 17s. At the Glover Road yards on the 14th inst. we submitted a large entry of stock. Bidding for all classes was more spirited than of late, resulting in every line except two pens changing hands at the hammer. Fat bullocks, £5 Is to £5 8s 6d ; forward bullocks, £4 2s 6d to £4 10s ; fat cows, £3 to £3 14s ; two to two and a-half year steers, £2 16s to £3 7s 6d; store cows, £1 16s 6d to £2 7s; empty heifers, £1 15s to £2 3s ; springers, £3 6s to £4 10s ; yearliags, mixed sexes, £1 5a to £1 14s 6d.
