In an address on the duties of parents to their children, Judge Hamilton, of Victoria, recently _ urged the necessity of parents providing home amusements and recreations for their children. One of the forms of entertainment he specially favoured was dancing. It had been affirmed recently that dancing was used for husband hunting. If that meant that people were brought together so that they might become acquainted with each other, then it seemed to him that dancing was a Tery proper kind of past time. A great many people had met their partners for life at a danco. He did not know that " wife-hunting " was a very injurious or pernicious occupation. The game might certainly be played with as much justification by one sex as the other. The United States Church Army, in its crusade against intemperance, i* establishing in New York saloons where a person cun procure tea and other nonintoxicating beverages at small oost Several prominent citizens of Mew York, including Cornelius Vanderbilt, Dr. George fl\ Shrady, Edwiu Knox, and Rev. E. Walpole Warren, have interested themselves in the matter and have given the new movement practical and moral assistance. A large glass of tea, hot or cold, is sold for one cent—one-fiftli of the price of a glass of beer. The money expended in the purchase of tea—that is to say, if the sum reaches twenty-four cents per day—will be taken charge of by the Church Army, and at tho end of the year it is computed that there will be 88 GOdol, or rather more than £l7, to each credit. The Church Army will then make up the amount to lOOdol (£2O), and will hand to the purchaser a bank book with that amount to his credit to draw and use at pleasure. Thus thiiffc as well as temperance will be encouraged.
