KIHIKIHI.

Entertainment. —There was a crowded house on Friday night last to hear the Steel-Payne Bellringers in the Town Hall here, and everyone seemed very pleased with the performance, and encores were frequent and were liberally responded to. Ckeamery.—The supply of milk to the local creamery for the month of August was very nearly fivo thousand gallons. So far there are only fifteen suppliers. There is evidently much difficulty in having cows milking so early in the season owing to the severe climate in winter and consequent scarcity of grass. The average supply is now about 400 gallons Volunteering.—The local volunteers under the charge of Lieut. Walker, have last week been putting in the regulation six days' drill, and on Thursday they paraded for inspection on the old barracks hill mustering some twenty strong. Lieut. Col. Banks who was accompanied by Scrgt. Major Carpenter arrived by coach and the local contingent were put through their musketry drill by the latter officer. Our young defenders acquitted themselves well and after the inspection Col. Banks complimented them on their soldierly appearance and the improvement made in the various evereises. Lieut. Walker has every reason to be proud of the manner in which iic has kept his men together and of hi 3 contingent of the Waikato Mounted Rifles. Captain Reid of Hamilton, was also over at the week end and took several photographs of the volunteers when on parade. Military Ball.—The ball on Thursday night was a brilliant success and a fitting wind up of a most successful series of dance 3 conducted by the volunteers. The large gathering including the volunteers in uniform and the many beautiful costumes of the ladies together with a lar«e display of brilliant and handsome Hags produced a gay and pretty scene. The music was supplied by the Te Awamutu Brass Band and everything was most enjoyable. Lieut. Col. Banks was present during the evening and was much impressed with the display.—(Own Correspondent.)
