CABLE SUMMARY.
The supposed outbreak of plague at Astrakan proves to be acute pneumonia. Juan Isidoro Zimens, who aspired to the Presidency of San Domingo, after the assassination of General Hcurenux, President of the Dominican Republic, has been arrested. The fleet assembled at New York to represent Sir Thos. Liptou's party at the America Cup race comprises eight vessel?, including the Shamrock herself, tues, scows, tenders and launches. The poor of New York protested that the meat trust was causing a rise in the price of beef. Vegetarian societies formed into a procession and marched through the Btreets, carrying loaves of bread.
Negotiations have been entered into by Punchart, MacTaggart, Lowther and Co., contractors, of London, for the construction of a bridge connecting Sydney and North Shore.
A strike of dockers at Hartlepool for an increase of wages has stopped 20 steamers. The Trinidad Volunteer Artillery has been disbanded owing to mutiny amongst members of the force.
