TE AWAMUTU MUSICAL SOCIETY.
The last rehearsals for the production of Sullivan's charming opera " The Pirates of Penzance" are being held this and next week, and the performance on the 16th and 18th of this month should prove to be equal to, if not superior, to anything yet attempted by the society. The piece will be superbly mounted, the scene in the second act—a ruined chapel by moonlight—being very beautiful. An efficient orchestra will accompany the opera, and the whole production will be under the conductorship of Mr J. H. Edwards, of Cambridge, whose services have been enlisted to fill the vacancy caused by Mr Long's promotion to Feilding.
Before the rehearsal on Wednesday evening Miss Mandeno, in the name of the ladies taking part in the opera, presented Miss Long with a beautifully mounted purse and card caße as a token of their esteem, and Mr Long suitably responded on behalf of his daughter.
