SUDDEN DEATH OF MR CHASINNES.
Ykstebday afternoon about 3 o'clock Mr Charles Innes was found dead in a large tub in his brewery. It appears that the doceased had been ailing for the past week or ten days, and was in rather a weak state. About half-past two he prepared a hot bath for himself. When his son left the building to feed his horse he heard the deceased splashing the water about. When he returned shortly afterwards, not hearing any sound, he looked into the tub when he saw his father lying with his head under water, which was only 15 inches deep. He raised the head out of the water and ran to Mr Allen's housecloseby. Mr Allen immediately came to the spot, and held deceased's head out of the water while young Innes ran for Dr. Brewis, who was very shortly in attendenco as also was Dr. Douglas. They found that life was extinct. It is surmised that the deceased was seized with a fit or faintness and fell with his head under water, as-found by his son. The deceased was 72 yearß of age, and a very old Waikato settler, having come to the district in 1864, und shortly afterwards had a contract to build the Waikato Hospiatl at Hamilton, which was subsequently used as the constabulary barracks and is the police station at the present time. On the completion of his contract he commenced business at Nt;aruawahia as a soda-water and lemonade manufacturer. When the Thames goldfields opened in 1868 he started a similar business there. In 1869 or 1870 he built a brewery at Alexandra and purchased the steamer Gymnotus, which he ran for some time. In 1871 he took over the brewery at NjKaruawahia and built a large malthouse. He subsequently carried on the business of brewer and cordial manufacturer at the old brewery at Hamilton East. Thia was burned down about two years back. The deceased then erected the premises on the west side of the Hamilton Bridge, in which he has since conducted his old business. He leaves a widow and six sons to mourn their loss, for whom great sympathy is felt.
