TE AWAMUTU.

Church. —Owing to the wet weather and poor attendance at St. John's Church on Tuesday evening last, the annual meeting of parishioners was adjourned until the 13th August. Concert.—The entertainment in aid of the Town Hall stage improvements, held on Thursday evening last, was a great success. The attendance, considering the object to which the takings are to be applied, might have been better, nevertheless the. hall was comfortably filled and the entertainment P altogether was one of the bust held hero for many a long day. Mr J. L. Mandeno, Chaiiman of the Town Board, presided, and stated that owing to the shortness of the Board's funds they were unable to provide for the necessary stage improve ments, when Mrs Geo. Ahier came to the fore and Tery kindly offered her assistance, and they were all much indebted to that lady and company for the steps taken. The first part of the eveuing's programme consisted pf musical items, all of which were much appreciated. The following was the programme : Overture, by members of the To Awamutu Orchestral Society ; song, "ComeintotheGarden,Maud,"Mr Fell; song, Mrs Andrew, " In The Old Couutry " ; song, Mr B. Short, " Fiddle and I" ; song, Miss Niccol, " The Tower By the Sea " (encored) ; comic song, Mr Bathurst, " Mrs Brown's Luggage " ; song, "Mr Fill, " Maid of Athens." The second part of the progranimjyvas the stagirg of the charming comigpP' My Lord Iu Livery," by some oTou. oxJst amateurs. All the characters were well sustained, and with such amateur ac'ors as Mrs Ahier, Misses Mitchell and Lewi?, and Messrs Dawson (Colonel), Bowrlen and H. Lewis, and last, but not least, the little Page " Robert," taken by Miss Marie Ahier (Bobbin), it in needless to say the comedy went swimmingly. The usual dance followed and a good number remained. The Town Board should not miss the opportunity of endeavouring to have the play repeated.—(Own Correspondent).
