HAMILTON WEST SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The usuul monthly meeting of the above committee was held in the scool-room on Thursday evening. The annual report of the Board of Education was laid on the table, The head teacher wrote informing the committee that the Education Board's architect had lately inspected both the school and the school-house. He drew attention to the need of painting the inside of the school a light colour. He stated that in some cases he considered it advisable that absentees should be proceeded against under the compulsory clauses of the School Attendance Act, and asked the committee to officially notify him that these douses were operative in the district, so that he might notify the Truant Officer of those who offended against its provisions. The committee passed a resolution deploring the absence of pupils, and urging on parents the desirability of sending their children to school regularly. They also agreed that the head teacher should be informed that the compulsory clauses are in force.
Te fill the vacancy on the Board of Kducation, the committee decided to nominate Mr Joseph Blades. A number of accounts were passed for payment. The committee then considered certain resolutions of which Mr Young (the chairman), had given notice. An account of the discussion upon these resolutions will be given in a future issue.
