WELLINGTON BY-ELECTION.
(BY TELEGRAPH—VKKSS ASSOCIATION). WiLUNGT 'N, Tuesday. Mr E.G. Jellicoe, cimtidate for the vacant Wellington seat, addressed a meeting in the Opera House to-night. The building was crowded in all parts. The proceedings were at times disorderly, but on the whole the candidate obtaiued a good hearing. He announced himself as an uncompromising supporter of the Liberal parly and the Liberal Ministry, but he said he would not sacrifice his independence to any man, neither would he consent to be tied to the chariot wheels of auy dictator, however eminent, or however triumphant: The following resolution was proposed, •' That this meeting thanks Mr Jellicoe for his interesting and able address, and expresses its confidence in him as a fit and proper person to represent Wellingington City in Parliament." This was carried with one dissentient, amidst cheers for Mr Jellicoe, and countercheers for Mr Huteheson.
