FOOTBALL.

A match was played in Mr Germann's paddock, Paterangi, on Saturday between Karamu and the local team, which resulted in a win for Paterangi by 12 points to 3. Karamu was represented by Bruce (2), Smith (3), Park (4), Livingstone (2), Sutherland (2), Mawhiuney and Stales. Ad the visitors were not considered strong enough to require the first fifteen, a number of the younger members got a chance to play on this occasion. Mr T. Alleoek acted as referee. The game was late in starting, and rain fell during the greater part of it, which made matters very unpleasant. The ball being so greasy prevented the backs from passing, so that the play was altogether among the forwards, and not very inte resting to the few spectators who were present. The football match played at Pirongia on Saturday last between the Te Awamutu and Pirongia Rifle volunteer teams was a most excellent one, although the weather was unfavourable. The match was won by Te Awamutu by two tries to nil. The game was played with great spirit throughout. F. Bovvden scored a try in the first spell, and G. Bowden (captain) scored in the second, both of whom, with Bockett, especially distinguished themselves For the local team Aubin (captain), Papesch, Prentice and Turner played well, and they showed the great improvement they have made. At the conclusion of the match, the usual cheers were given, and one for the referee aud umpires. Mr H. H. Burton, as referee, was strict and the whistle was frequently on the trill, Messrs C. Bowden aud Thorpe acted as line umpires. The Te Awamutu team were after the match entertained to dinner at Mrs Finch's Hotel, both teams sitting down together and spending an hour or-two in harmony.—(Own Correspondent), The following will represent the Hamilton 11. in their match against Cambridge 11., to be played at Cambridge on Saturday next :—Full-back—H.
