NGARUAWAHIA.
Political Matters, —Owing 110 doubt to the approaching general election, politics are beginning to interest the people of this township. Last Wednesday week a meeting of those interested in the formation of a branch of the Liberal Association was called, but as the attendance was poor, it was decided to hold another meeting the followind Wednesday ; no further steps, however, were taken. Probably, aB the election approaches, the supporters of the present Government will ahow more activity in tne matter. Rev. Dr. Hosking, of Hamilton, notified the electors of this p.rt of the electorate that he would address them in Ngaruawahia, on Tuesday, the 13th inst. His advertisement to this effect appeared in both local papers of that date, but at the last momenta small and insignificant notice, which read al follows : " Dr. Hoskiug's politicas address is postponed," appeared on the notice board of the township. As this notice was not signed, people did not know whether it was genuine or not. In the evening the Doctor did not put in an appearance, and some who had turned out to'hear him were dissappointed. May I sucgest that one who aspires to the position of assisting in conducting the business of the colony should be more businesslike himself. Isew Hall.—The contractors for the new hall have notified the Town Board of their inability to finish the contract. The hall is almost completed and people have for some time been anxiously looking forward to its opening. Some further delay will ensure, as the Town Board cannot for some little time move in the matter. The want of a hall has been greatly felt by the township, as it has prevented all public entertainments from being held. The want of a suitable buildina for it 3 meetings has also prevented the Debating and Social Society, which has beeu so successful during the past three years, from continuing this winter. Bdtter Factory.—ln order to give the butter factory a more adequate supply of good water, the New Zealand Dairy Association decided upon sinking an artesian well MessrsThomasSnowand Son, formerly of Huntly, have been engaged in boring durin. the past few weeks, and have now got to a depth ot 230 feet.—(Own Crrropondent).
