HAMILTON STOCK MARKET. At the monthly aule, held in the Hamilton Borough Yards on Thursday, barely an average number of stock was yarded, and the pouring vet day also considerably reduced the public attendance. The tone of the market was firm, cattle being in brisk demand, though prices were no higher. Beef wis iu full supply and of good quality, the top price for steers (£6 9s) being made for a pen fattened by Mr E. B. Cox, of Freshfield. Beef generally made from 13s to 16s per 1001 b. Dairy cows were in fair numbers and in brisk demand, up to £4 17s, most of the cows bringing from £3 10s to £4 7s 6d. The sheep pens were filled with a good assortment, including a line of well-bred longwool ewes in lamb, which made 10s 4d each. Once more the unsuitability of the present sheep yards for the purpose was demonstrated, the narrow lane between the pens iu which the public have to stand being simply a pool of muddy water, and even the sheep iu the pen*3 were standing in mud. Ample drainage is available for these yards, and if the pens and lane were risen by gravtlliug or sanding, it would be a great advantage to the stock and also to the public. A general opinion exists among all who attend the Hamilton sales that there is a great future before the latter if proper yard and paddock accommodation were provided, and those interested should see that notlr'ng is wanting in this respect. Pigs were forward in moderate numbers, and met with brisk competition. Trices were : Calves, 153 to 17s 6d ; 18-months steers, '2ss to 32s ; coarse, two and three yearold steers, £2 7s 6d to £2 12s ; three-year-old steers, £3 5s to £4 5s ; fresh steers, £5 ; empty cows, poor, from 20s ; good young cows, £2 to £2 lis ; empty heifers. £1 10s to £2 7s ; fat cows, £3 5s to £5 5s ; fat steers, £5 5s to £6 9s ; fat heifers, £3 10s to £4 7s 6d ; dairy cows, £3 7s 6d to £4 17s 6d.
