An enormous amount of evidence was taken, showing a total deficiency on the joint estate of £343,000. Commissioner Russell, after dismissing the trustees' charges on technical ground, dealt with the charges of fraudulently obtaining large sums of money to carry on the business of the firm. He said Arthur L. Harrold, one of the partners, had gamble! iuthe fullest sense, plunßed for fortune, and borrowed on all sides without any reasonable expectation of repayment. He scathingly commented on offences against commercial honour. The three insolvents ware not equally culpable. Leonard Harrold, who_ was iu London, was in a different position to the others. The question of granting his certificate would be dealtjwith subsequently. Earnest Eyston Harrold, one of the brothers in Adelaide, knew the condition of the firm, but was gre tly controlled by Arthur..
