(BT TELEGRAPH.— PRKSS ASSOCIATION). Auckland, Last Night. The Amalgamated Society of carpenters and joiners, also the Builders Society, accept the award of the Conciliation Court. At the Police Court Thomas Buxton, licensee of the Criterion Hotel, was charged with a breach of tha Licensing Act by serving John Leonard, alias "Juicy," an intoxicated person, with beer. Defendant pleade '. Lot guilty. After the evi« dence was heard defendant was convicted and fined 40s and costs. Mr Russell asked that the fine be raised to £5, so that he could appeal, as the consequences were serious. Mr Hutchison, S.M., said there could only be an appeal on a point of law, and there was no suggestion of that. Sub-Inspector Wilson pointed out that under the Act the conviction must be endorsed on the license. His Worship endorsed the license. In the divorce suit, Batger v. Batger, the petitioner concluded her evidence, being under examination for four hours. The case will be resumed tomorrow. The libe' action, Spraggv. Edgecumbe, is the next case on the list. At the irquest on Mr Brown, mate of the Hinemoa, who was drowned off East Island, a verdict of " Accidentally drowned " was found, and the jury recommended the Government to provide a safer landing, to disinter the bodies of the seamen at the island and place them in a cemetery.
