FRENCH CRISIS.
RESIGNATION OF MINISTRY. [united press association], (by electric telegraph.—copyright.) Paris, June 13. In the Chamber of Deputies a Socialist member protested against the brutality of the police at Longchamps on Sunday. M. Dupuy, the Premier, defended the action of the authorities, and insisted on a vote of confidence. The Chamber by 321 to 173 resolved only to support the Government, while they were determined to energetically defend the Republic and ensure order. Interpreting this decision as a covert vote of censure the Ministry resigned. It is believed that M. Dupuy rode for a fall. The Socialists and many Radicals were dissatisfied with the Cabinet's contradictory attitude over the Dreyfus case, and distrusted M. Dupuy's intention to punish Generals Boisdeffre and Mercier. Paris, June 13. It is not expected that the new French Miuistry will disturb the arrangements for the re-trial of Captain Dreyfus. An Italian general has been arrested at Nice on a charge of espionage. Plans of the fortifications of the city were found in his pocket. The correctional police have sentenced Count Christiaui, who took a prominent part in the demonstration against President Loubet at the Auteuil races, to four years' imprisonment.
