MEETING OP CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. (BY TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION). Auckland, Last Night. A meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was held to consider the question of railway communication with the South. There was a large and representative attendance. Mr Hugh Champbell move! that "In the opinion of this Chamber the railway connection betweeu Auckland and Wellington is of paramount importance, and the Chamber urges the representatives in Parliament of the Auckland provincial district to take coucerted action to secure the best line possible in view of the circumstances, political, fiuancial and engineering." The motion was carried unanimously. The Hon. W. McCullough moved the second resolution that, "As under present circumstances there is little hope of Parliament authorising a new line of railway to Wellington via Stratford, and as there are 12 miles of railway at the north end of the main trunk line to be completed before a point of divergence is reached, this Chamber is of opinion that Auckland representatives should use every effort to induce the Governmcr.t to construct the said 12 miles without further delay, and also to press the work forward with greater expedition."—Carried unanimously.
