KIRIKIRIROA ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the Kirikiriroa Road Board was held at the Chambers, Hamilton East, yesterday. There were present: Messrs John Gordon (Chairman), M. G. Farrer and F. R. Seddon. Tramway Road.—The Clerk reported that he had looked up the Public Works Act and could find no authority under which the Board could grant Mr Gaudin'H request to be allowed to fence in portion of the Tramway Road gratis.—The Board had power to close the road if MrGaudin paid all expenses in connection therewith and then bought the land.—The Chairman said he h:d also looked up the Act and found this to be the case—-It was decided to reply to Mr Gaudin to this effect.—Mr A. Smith wrote asking for permission to fence in that portion of the Tramway Road one chain wide from his residence to Mrs Davis'.—Letter received. Valuation.—Mr John Crosby, of Kirikiriroa, reported that he had been valued for 40 acres more land than he possessed.—The Clerk stated that this was actually the case, and he had written to the Valuation Department regarding the mistake. Drainage Reserve, Taupiri.—Mr E. B, Cox wrote drawing the attention of the Board to the fact that Lot 6 still remained on the roll in the name of the trustees of the Freshfield Estate. He expressed the opinion that this allotment had been transferred to the Board some years as a drainage reserve.—The Clerk reported tlut Mr Cox wa- right, and he produced the transfer, but said it had not been registered.—lt was decided to have the transfer registered as 3Con as possible and effect the necessary alteration.

Native Beserve Boad.—Mr E. B. Cox also requested the Board to grant a further sum towards opening up the road to the Native Reserve, a distance of about 30 chains. If the Board would agree he would have the work carried out at 4d per cubic yard —The Board granted the request. Finance. The Clerk stated that the available balance amounted to £337 17s 101, made up as follows : Balance, £2"*l 3s 3d ; subsidy, £3O ; rates due, £5 13s lid ; thirds, £2l 0s Sd ; less accounts to pay, £B3 4s 7d ; leaving a balance of £254 13s 3d. Foreman's Report.—ln his report the Foreman of Works reported that the whole of the gravelling works let by the Board had been completed, aud in all 2,444 yards of gravel had been distributed in various parts of the district. Accounts.—The following accounts were passed for payment : F. W. Littlewood, £l9 3s 4d ; R. Waite, £36 14s 3d ; Win, Honeybun, £6 6s ; J. Franklin, £9 ; C. Wallace, £4 lis ; Clerk (salary), £7 10s. Total, £B3 4s 7d. Overdraft. The usual resolution asking for permission to overdraw up to the legal limit (£545) was forwarded to the Bank of New Zealaud.

(JKAVJf u. —Mr F. J. Long wrote on the question of the gravel taken by him from one of the Board's pits. He said he had no idea that the gravel had been taken without permission, and asked the Board to forward its account for royalty.—The Board accepted the explanation and decided to inform Mr Long that it had ro wish to enforce the payment of royalty. Show Grounds.—The Chairman said no doubt the members were all aware that certain gravelling works were shortly to be carried out at the Claudelands show grounds, and as it was desirable that they should have a competent man to act ts supervisor, he asked that the Board's f. reman should be allowed to take charge of the work during his slack time. The request was granted. Furze, Briars, etc. —Mr Farrer asked if the Act did not provide that persons clearing furze, briars, etc., from their frontages should also remove the debris. In his own and in mauy other paitsof the district the briars had been cut down, but not removed, thereby causing much inconvenience to sheep-owners. —ln repl/ the Clerk said propertyowners were compelled to remove as wall as clear the noxious weeds, and could also be compelled to grub, if the Board so desired. All the notices issued by the Board were worded to this effect. —The Board was of op nion that owners should comply with the Act in this respect of their own accord, and decided to take steps to enforce compliance if necessary.
