MURDEROUS ASSAULT.
MAN ATTACKS HIS WIFE WITH A SLASHER. (BY TKLEGRArH—PRESS ASSOCIATION). Marton, Last Night. At Pahikikura, iu the Otamakapua Block, on Sunday night, Joseph Monteith knocked hi 3 wife down with a slasher, inflicting severe wounds on her face and neck. Whilst down he wounded her with a gua barrel on the Lack of the neck. The sou intervened, and Montieth pointed an unloaded gun ac him. A constable aud a doctor were summoned, and the woman's depositions have been taken, as she is in a critical condit'OD. Montieth was brought before the Hunterville Bench this morning.
