Murray, who, after over 20 years' charge of the school, was compelled through failing health, to sever his connection with the Board of Education. From the five names submitted by the Board, Mr E. C. Purdie was cho3on, and he had been in charge since tho Christmas holidays, and the change had resulted in what was greatly needed, an increased attendance and an improved management of the school. The Committee impressed ou parents the necessity of regular attendance of the pupils Mr Jno. Knox asked what wasdhe amount of the outstanding cheques, and the Secretarj replied £2. Mr Knox : This moans that the account has gone in arrears £l7 in a ytar. Mr W. C. Castleton, as a member of the retiring committee, said the money had been spent in the early part of the committee's year of office, and had been used in works of necessity—caused by the neglect of previous committees. The outbuildings and buildings had been made fit for the use of the children, which they had not been before. Having to do this did not reflect credit on the previous committee, of which Mr Knox was a member, and the committee thought it better to spend the money in this way than have it lying in the bank. (Applause). Mr Manning moved that the report and balance - sheet be received and adopted, seconded by Mr Spencer and carried unanimously. The electiou of the committee was then proceeded with, the following nominations being received, viz., Messrs J. Andrew, W. Beaven, O. Cowley, G. Edgeoumbe, J. Frear, T. King, Jno. Knox, W. Manning, P. Munro, T. Qualtrough, D. Ross, E. White and J. A. Young. Some others were nominated but declined to stand. A ballot was then taken, Messrs Castleton and Gwynne acting as scrutineers, with the following result:—J. A. Young 59, P. Munro 58, T. King 54, J. Andrew 53, C. Cowley 53, W. Manning 53, E. White 52, G. Edgecumbe 32, T. Qualtrough 28, J. Knox 26, D. Ross 26, W. Beaven 25, J. Frear 18. Messrs Young, Munro, King, Andrew, Cowley, Manning and White were declared elected. Mr Young thanked the householders for placing him in the position they had, and said the result of the election was a clear evidence that they were satisfied with the work of the old committee. He proposed a vote of thanks to the chairman and scrutineers, and this closed the meeting. Meeting of Committee. At a meeting of the newly-elected committee, held subsequently, all the members were present. On the motion of Mr White, Mr J. A. Young was elected to the position of Chairman, and Mr White, on the motion of Mr Young, was re-elected secretary. Messrs Young and White were appointed a committee to inspect the school, grounds and outbuildings and report to the next meeting. It was decided to meet on the third Thursday in each month at 7 30 p. m at the school. Two accounts, viz., J. T. Home Is 4d and T. W. Maunder 7s, were passed for payment.

HAMILTON EAST. As usual, very little interest was evinced in the annual meeting of householders held in the school-room, Hamilton East, last evening, only eight persons being present. On the motion of Mr Tippen, seconded by Mr G. Pearson, Mr Wm. Dey was voted to the chair. Report.—The Chairman reported that since the last election of the committee things in connection with the school had gone on most satisfactorily. There had been a good percentage of passes, and the inspector's and examiner's reports had been very favourable. A Blight change had been made in the teaching staff, Miss Wallace having replaced Miss Nixon. Balance - sheet.—The balance-shest was read as follows : —Receipts : To balance in Bank and in hand on 31st March, 1898, 6s 6d ; grants from Education Board for ordinary incidental purposes, £3O ; receipts from other Bources, 10s; total, £3O 16s 6d. Expenditure: Cleaning schools and outbuildings, £23; fuel for school use, £1 10s 8d ; advertising, 3s ; stationery, 6s ; balance, 2s lOd ; total. £3O 16s 6d. Election. —The following gentlemen were elected a committee for the ensuing year :—Messrs Win. Dey, A. Coyle, C. Tippin, R. Hines, H Tristram, T. Chappell and A. Chappell.

Chaibman and Secretary.—At the committee meeting held directly afterwards, Mr Wm. Hey was re-elected Chairman for the ensuing year and Mr H. Tristram Secretary. CAMBRIDGE. The following waa the report of the committee read at the meeting of householders last evening : "We have the honour to report that the average number on the roll for the past year was 239, and the average attendance 174, which is a slight falling off from last year's numbers respectively. This is accounted for by the influenza epidemic of the last quarter, and by a visitation of bees which made a home for themselves in the walls of the school buildings, and frightened the children by stinging a great many. This nuisance is now abated. In May last Mr Petrie visited the Bchool and reported favourably on the conduct of it, he also drew attention to the bad state of the old school building. The result of the annual standard examination conducted by Inspector Mulgan in September last was very satisfactory and highly credit able to the head teacher. The staff of teachers has been reduced during the year by the removal of Miss Smale. The architect to the Education Board visited and inspected the school buildings in December last with the view of laying before the Board a plan for extensive additions and repairs to the same, but as yet nothing has been heard of the matter. The school excursion to the Auckland Exhibition this year was a great success, over 100 children and 80 adults availing themselves of this opportunity to visit it. The committee commenced the year with a credit balance of £6 0s 3d, and close the year's accounts with a credit balance of £l2 14s 9d."—Arthur Bach, Chairman.
