THE MARINE SCANDAL.
(by telegraph—press association). Wellington, Last Night. In the case arising out of the recent marine prosecution, the defence in the action of the Solicitor-General v. Captain Jones gives a general denial to the allegations that he was guilty of any fraudulent or collusive act in obtaining a master's certificate. Defendant further contends : (1) That the allegations in the statement of claim do not disclose any cause for action ; (2) that the Supreme Court has no authority or jurisdiction to deal with the case.
When the case oamc on to-day Mr Gully moved for an interim injunction restraining the use of the certificate. Mr Gray, for the defence, said he had agreed to this course. Mr Justice Denniston asked what was to be done about the main action ? He objected to hear the two together; they must be kept separate. Counsel thereupon conferred, and ultimately it was announced that they would go on with the main action, for which purpose the court was adjourned till Thursday.
