POLICE SPIES IGNORED. (BY TELECJRAriI—PRESS ASSOCIATION). Invekcargill, Tuesday. To-day Mi- Poynton, S.M., aajaiu declined to convict a person accused of selling liquor without a license on the evidence of witnesses engaged by the police. .Acoiued and a witness said that the liquor was supplied, but was purchased with mouey got frrJm the informant, who with his mate swore that the stout was not paid for till produced, and was brought from a b.ick room. His Worship said that the witnesses on both sides were equally interested in proving their statements. For threatening Vain jGJetc, a Chinese, who has been very prominent as a detective in sly-grog cases, two men were convicted, to come up for sentence when called on, and to pay costs.
