The Waikato ARGUS Office, Friday. MARKET PRICES CURRENT. The following prices for the current week were quoted by the Hamilton tradespeople on Friday : Bacon, per lb—Farmers : Wholesale, 6d ; retail, 6d to 7d. Cambridge : "Wholesale, 7d to 7id ; retail, 8d to 9d. Canterbury : Wholesale, 9gd ; retail, lid. Hams, per lb—Canterbury : Wholesale, lOd ; retail, Is. Eggs, per dozen : Wholesale, lid to Is 2d ; retail Is to Is 4d. Dairy butter, per lb: Wholesale, 5d to 6d ; retail, 5d to Sd. Factory butter, per lb—New Zealand Dairy Association : Wholesale, Is to IsOJd; retail, Is 2d. Cheese (farm -marie), per lb : Wholesale, 3jd to 4d ; retail, 5d to 6d. Factory cheese, per lb: Wholesale, 4d to 5d ; retail, s|d to 7d. Onions, per lb : Wholesale, f d to Id ; retail, Id to lsd. Oats (local), per bushel: Wholesale, Is 9d to 2s ; retail, 2s. Milling wheat (delivered in Auckland) per bushel : Wholesale, 2s 6d. Fowl wheat, per bushel : Wholesale, 2* 3d ; retail, 2s 6d. Maize, per bushel: Wholesale, 3s to 3s 2d ; retail, 3s 4d to 3s 6d.
HAMILTON STOCK MARKETS. At the ordinary monthly sale, held in the Hamilton Borough Yards on Thursday, an average number of stock was yarded, with a good attendance of the public. Young cattle were penned in fair numbers and met with a biisk demand, at fully late rates. Empty cows were also in request, but fat cattle, of which fully 100 head were in, were dull of sale. The quality generally was not good, many pens being insufficiently fatted, and these sold at about 12s per 1001 b, steers a shade higher. Dairy cows were in short supply, and for good quality were in fair demand. A dozen well-bred heifers from Mr E. B. Cox, Frashfield, made from £3 10s to £4 4s each. The sheep pens were filled with a good class of fat sheep, which sold briskly at about late rates. Figs were in better supply than for some time past, and met a good sale. The following are the prices :—Calves, mixed sexes, 12s 6d to 153 ; steer calves, 15s to 193; 18 months' steers, 25s to 27s 6d ; do. heifers, 203 to 22s 6d ; empty cows, £2 to £2 12s 6d ; stags, £1 to £2 7s 6d ; bulls, 12s to £2 2s 6d ; fresh grown steers, £3 10s to £3 17s 6d ; fat cows, £2 17s 6d to £4 Is ; fat heifers, £2 10s to £3 7s 6d ; fat steers, £4 5s to £5 7s 6d ; dairy cows, medium quality, £2 17s 6d to £3 15s; springing heifers, £2 10s to £4 4s. Sheep : Fat ewes, 7s to Ss ; fat sheep, mixed sexes, 10s ; fat lambs, 5s 6d to 7s ; crossbred lambs, 4s 6d to 6s 6d. Pigs : Weaners, small, 5s 3d to 6s 6d ; do. wellbred, 6s to 8s 6d ; slips, 10s to los ; grown pigs, 178 6d to 20s.
AUCKLAND MARKETS. Messrs Hunter and Nolans Report.—Cattle : At the Newmarket Yards on Tuesday, dairy and store stock were yarded in full members and with the exception of dairy cows, showed no improvement in values. Fat cattle were penned in full numbers, and were lower than for some weeks. Fat oxen sold at from 14s to 16s 1001 b ; cows, 13s to 15s ; fat steers brought from £4 to £7 17s 6d ; cows, £2 12s 6d to £4 17s 6d ; dairy cows, £3 12s 6d to £7 ; stores, at late values. Sheep : The Newmarket Yards were well filled, and showed an improvement on last week's prices. We quoteFat wethers, from 8s 9d to 12s ; fat ewes, 6s 9d to 9s 9d ; lambs plentiful, sold at from 6s 3d to 12s. Pigs : Porkers sold at from 12s 6d to £1 13s each ; weaners, 6s 6d to 9s. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) report:—Auckland Wool Stores, March 22nd. We had a good catalogue at our sale on Tuesday, when our prices were firm. Hides : We sold picked ox hides, 6d to 7d ; stout, 5d to s§d ; medium, 4Ad to 4|d ; light, 4d ; cow, 3£d to 4|d ; stout, 4Jd ; kip, 3|d ; calf, 3|d to 4£d ; stags, 2£d to 3d. Sheepskins, 2s to 3s 6d ; pelts, Is to Is 9d ; lambs', Is 3d to 2s 6d. Tallow : 13s 6d to 14s 6d cwt. Tails, Is 7d dozen. Hair : Horse, Is to Is 4d ; cow, 8(J to 9jd lb, Maize : Receipts this week were far ia excess of requirements, and the market has consequently declined to 2s 8d on the wharf, with a weakening tendency. Oats : Present quotation, for " B " grade oats is, f.0.b., Is lid ex store, Is lOd ex ship. Chaff is offeriug freely at £2 at the railway. Messrs Alfred Bdckland and Sons' Weekly Report.—At the Haymarkct auction meadow hay brought 2s 3d ; oaten sheaves, Is 6d to 2s the cwt, ex store; chaff, £2 10s; brau, £3 10s; sharps, £4 10s ; pressed meadow hay, £3 10s ; pressed straw, £2 15s ; rock salt, £4 ; Bunyarra bonedust, £6 10s ; Chesterfield guano, £3 10s ton ; maize, 2s lid; oats, Is Sd to Is lOd ; wheat, 2s 6d ; barley, Is 6d ; cocksfoot, 6s 6d ; Poverty Bay ryegrass, 5s 6d bushel ; white clover, 9d ; red clover, 6d ; alsyke, Sd ; rape, 4d ; timothy, 4d lb ; maizs on wharf, 2s 8d bushel. Hides in demand at fully late quotations. Ox and steer hides from 3Jd to 4§d ; cow hides, 3sd to 4jfl j kip, 3gd ; calfskins, 3£d ; fat, ljd lb ; tallow, 13s 6d cwt; sheep pelts, 10.1 to Is I0i; lambs' pelts, lOd to Is lOd each. At Remuera, on Thursday, dairy cittle were in demand at full values ; those at profit wore from £5 to £7 each. Store cattle, in moderate number, were at low values. Calves, in short supply, kept late values. Young cubes, 2s to 5s ea.-h ; medium-sized, 7s to 18s ; heavy calves, up to £1 2s Od. Fat cattle, in fall number, were at lower values than hitherto. Steers were from 13s to 15s 1001 b ; cows, 10s to Us 1001 b. Steers ranged in price frpni £3 10s to £7 7s 6d each ; cows, £2 10s to £4 2d Od, with two exceptions, when £5 10s and £6 10s each for choice heifers were obtained, 302 sold, but many of the steers were in forward condition only. Sheep, in full number ; 1000 yarded. Wethers kept late values, but ewes were lower in price. Wethers brought from 7s 3d to lis 9d each ; owes, 5s 6d to 8s ; 1500 sold. Lambs kept late values, and were from 6s to 10s 3d each ; 200 sold. Pigs sold frvcly if in condition for killing, but weaners were iu less request. Porkers were from 12s to £1 6s each ; weaners, 7s OJ. The boars advertised brought £1 10s each.
