FRENCH IN AFRICA.
AN EXPEDITION ATTACKED. ONE HUNDRED KILLED. [UNITED PEESS ASSOCIATION]. (BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT). (Received March 9, 50 a.m.). Paris, March 23. It is reported that a French political and commercial expedition, led by M. Pourean, the well known African explorer, and of which Mr Charles Louis Doran, member for Loire in the Chamber of Deputies, is a member, while the military side is represented by Colonel Laruy and four officers, had a severe engagement with the natives. The expedition, which was well armed with repeating rifles, consisted of three hundred Algerian and Saharan Tirailleurs, and was making its way from Algeria to Lake Tchad, when Tuareg natives opened an attack. One hundred of the expeditionary force were killed before the Tuaregs were repulsed.
