The Waikato Argus Office, Wednesday. MR VV. J. HUNTER'S OHAUPO STOCK SALE. ATMrW. J. Hunter's Yards, on Tuosday, there was but a moderate supply of Btoek, about 300 head of all classes. The cattle were all of a good description and in Rood condition. Young stock were well represented and in demand et fully five shillings a head in advance on previous prices. Grown cattle also sold a bit better than usual. Beef was plentiful, but dull ot sale. Calves were numerous and sold well A few horses were disposed of at satisfactory prices. Only a few dairy cows offered. The following are the quotations :—Good springing heifers, from £3 3s to £3 16s ; steer calves, good quality, 19s ; small mixed calves, from 15s to 17s ; fifteen months steers, 36s ; three-year-old steers, from £2 18s 6d to £4 ; for well-grown and fresh-conditioned grown steers, from £4 to £4 18s ; 18-months steers, from £2 2s to £2 ss, with a good demand ; two-year-old steers, from £2 5s to £2 17s; wellbred heifers, 18 months old, 39s ; empty cows, from £2 5s to £2 9s ; cowb with calves, £2 9s ; fat cows, £3 2s 6d ; do. heifers, £3 5s to £3 9s ; small fat steers, from £4 Is to £4 12*.-(Own Correspondent).

FRUIT MARKEI. The Otago Fkuit and Produce Agenoy report under date :—Dunedin, March 20th. The supply of fruit has materially decreased this week, and {with theexceptioD of cooking apples, which have gone quite off sale) all sorts have shown a material increase in values. Pears : A marked improvement in the demand for these is noticeable. We expect to see this well maintained. At today's sales prime Canterbury Williams realised 4s to 6s per case ; other kinds, 2s 6d to 4a per case ; Melbourne Beurres realised 8s 6d per case ; Auckland grown dessert sorts, 4s to 4s 6d per case. Plums: These are in pood demand, and at to-day's sales the highest prices of the season were obtained. A line of very fine dessert fruit sold at 3d to 3|d per lb. We quote prime Belgians at those prices; Golden Drops, id to 3d per lb ; cooking and inferior varieties, lid to 2d per lb. Peaches: These have had good sale. Prime dessert, 4d to 5d per lb ; fair to medium, to 3d per lb ; cooking and jam varieties, to 2d per lb. Apricots : Practically done. Apples: As indicated above, cooking varieties are almost unsaleable, and we advise growers to stop shipping meantime. Prime dessert sorts are in good demand ; Cox's Orange, Ribstone, Lord Lennox Pippins and other good dessert varieties are readily saleable at 6s to 7s per case for prime samples; inferior to medium, 3s to 4s per case ; cooking sorts, 2s to 3s per case. Quinces : In good demand ; to 2d per lb. Passion Fruit : Consignments of Auckland grown in small boxes realised 4s to 4s Cd per box. Grapes : Supplies excessive and hard to sell at 6d to 7d per lb. Messrs Laery and Co. report under date, Wellington, March 20th :—Fruit: The *' Warrimoo " arrived on Monday from Fiji with consignments of bananas aggregating about 24C0 packages, including approximately 800 cases. The bulk of the bunches were landed in fairly satisfactory order, but a very large proportion of the cases were landed iu exceedingly bad aondition. The " Talune" arrived during the week with moderate shipments of oranges, lemons, and pines from Sydney. Tomatoes have been arriving during the past few days in smaller quantities, and prices show some little improvement. The same remark applies to pears. .Stone fruits have been short of requirements, and all lines arriving in good order sell exceedingly well. Apples : Choice varieties show a material improvement. For several lines of Cox'.n Orange Pippins and Ribatons we realised prices ranging from 6a 6d to Bs. We quote—For medium to good, 4s to 5s 6d ; prime cookers, 4s to 5s ; medium to good, 2s 6d to 3s 6d per case. Pears: Market improving. We quote—Choice Australian William pears, 12s to 14s ; good to 9s to lis. Choice Canterbury William pears, 78 to 10s ; medium to good, 5s to 6s 6d per case of about 401 b. Whangarei Bon Chretiens, choice, 3s 6d to 4s 6d ; medium to good, 3s to 3s 6d ; Hawke's Bay, choice, 3s 6s to 4s 6d ; medium to good, 2s 6s to 3a per £-case. Peaches : Stocks are light and values are daily hardening. We quote—Choice Hawke's Bay, 7s to 8s ; good to prime, 5s to 63 9d ; choice Nelson, 6s 6d to 7s 6d ; medium to good, 6s to 6s per }-case.
