PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the above Council was held at Morrinsville on Monday lust at 12 noon, when there were present: Crs. Chepmell (in tho chair), Hemes, Gavin, Aitken, Farmer, McCaw, Ring and Harrison. Government Grants.—The Treasury advised having placed the following amounts to the Council's credit : Subsidy on repairs to Waiorongomai tramway, £SO; goldfields revenue during month of December, 7s 7d ; repairs to Thomson's track, £'3oo Bank Balance.—The Clerk reported that the credit balance at the bank was £470 19s sd. Alteration in Ratepayers' Roll The Council decided to put Mr Jas. McNicol's name on the roll in place of his brother's, as per application.
Thirds. Herries to prepare a schedule of expenditure of £34 13s lOd received as thirds. Thomson's Teack.—ln view of £3OO having been received from the Government, the Council decided to clear and open the track as far as their boundary, and afterwards to expend the balance in widening and bridging where necessary in order to fit it for coach traffic. Alteration of Boundary. The Council declined to accede to the request of the Waipa County Council that the poriiou of the Piako County on tho western side of the "Waikato River should be included in the Waipa County.
Cleaning Drains.—Mr Jno. Borne reminded the Council that the County outfall drain near Waihou required cleaning out. —The Council decided to leave the matter with Foreman Wattsm to make the best arrangement with Mr Borne.
Closing Road.— All the necessary formalities having been observed, the Council declared part of the road from Pukeknra to Horohoro closed. Waiorongomai Tramway.—Mr E. J. Hardy forwarded for consideration certain proposals with regard to his working the tram. He was prepared to pay three men, feed the two horses, lubricate the brakes, replace sleepers and rails damaged by him, and generally to safeguard the interests of the Council. Rev. J. Campbell also wrote asking on what terms the Council would allow him Ude ot the tram, or at what rate per ton they would run down his ore.—The Council decided to advertise for tenders to leaße the tram on similar lines to the lease held by Mr Geo. Taylor. Katikati Track.—lt was decided to spend a sum not exceeding £5 in effecting some minor repairs to this track.
Overdue Contract.—lt was decided to write J. Orr, stating that the Council would hold him responsible for overtime due ou his contrast on Waharoa Road drains.
New Works.—Specifications for the following works prepared by Foreman Wattam, were submitted to the Council and approved :—Road formation, Gor-don-Waharoa Road ; building bridge near Brady's gate ; cleaning out 2| miles of drain on Thames - Waikato Road. Tenders were ordered to be called for these returnable on Saturday week.—On the Foreman's recommendation, the offer of R. Macky to supply and cart 35 yards of good gravel at 4d per yard, for approach to Te Aroha railway bridge, was accepted.—Foreman Wattam was authorised to fix up footpaths, and clean out drains in Waiorongomai township.— Foreman Mahood was authorised to gravel the following parts of roads ; hills between Putaruru and Lichfield, 20 chains near Tirau school, 30 chains near Waimakariii ; also to get a truck of heart of rimu timber for bridge and culvert work.
New Bridge.—Foreman Mahood was authorised to employ a carpenter to assist in erecting a bridge over Walker's gully on the Rangitainuku Road ; this also to apply to culvert at Stanley's ; the Council to supply all material. Tenders.—The following were received for the following contracts : No. 110, carting 440 yards of clay at Wattoa : A. J. Forrest, Is 3d per yard ; J. Shine, Is 2d ; 0. McCabe, lid ; W. Bellamy, lOid ; D. McCarthy. lOd ; Voysey and" Warren, lOd. The two latter having tied, the matter was decided by lot, when Voysey's tender was decided on. No. 111, carting 400 yards of gravel at Morrinsville : A, J. Forrest, 2s 6d ; Voysey and Warren, 2s 5d ; D. McCarthy, 2s 3d ; W. Bellamy, 2s Id ; J. Shine, Is lOd (accepted). No 112, carting 400 yards gravel between Stoney Creek and Waiorongomai: A. J. Forrest, 3s ; O. McCabe, 3s; W. R. Johnson, 2s 4d (accepted). No 113, carting 150 yards gravel iu Waimkau : A. J. Forrest, 3s; O. McCabe, Is 7d ; W. R. Johnson, Is 3d (accepted). Formation Cambridge-Tauranga Road : W. Stanley, £l2 12s ; J. Walker, £lO 10s (accepted). Riding Representation.—lt was decided to leave the present arrangement undisturbed. Accounts.—The following were passed for payment :-G. Wattam, £l3 15s ; J. Tattersall, £8 2s; R.
