PIRONGIA.

Howden's Cup.—ln the competition by the members of the Waikato Mounted Rifles No. 2, for the silver cup presented by Mr Howdcn, Lieut. Hodgsonwas unavoidably absent on the day appointed for firing. Buglar Miles, the winner on that occasion, expressed his willingness however that Lieut. Hodgson should, although ataent, have his chance to win the cup. Lieut. Hodgson accordingly attended on the following day at the butts, making a score of 25 points, Sergt. Miles making 32 and winning the trophy. I have been requested to mention this as there is some misapprehension of the facts of the case. Farming Mattebs.—The last week's fine weather has been very favourable for threshing and chaffing operations, and Mr Harry Short's plant has been very busy around here. All the Whatawhatahoe crops are threshed and turned out fairly well. Mr J. G. Berry's crop was a good one, and Mr T. Bainbridge's oats averaged 45 bushels to the acre. Politics.—Our member will have to keep his eyes open, as the political campaign has already began. The Government candidate "is already in the field and will receive all the Government influence. Pirongia has already been visited and Kawhia and the West Coast are now being solicited.—(Own Correspendent).
