Mr Cecil Rhodes has arranged for the Trans-African railway and telegraph lines to traverse German territory on the eastern side of Lake Tanganyika. Mr Rhodes found the German authorities in complete accord with him. Had Germany bean averse Mr Rhodes had an alternative scheme for carrying the lines through the Congo State. Sir Frank Lascelles, the British Ambassador at Berlin, gave a banquet in honour of Mr Cecil Rhodes. The German Emperor and Empress were present.
