OHINEMURI JOCKEY CLUB'S MEETING. FIBST DAY. [by telegraph—special reporter]. Paeroa, Last Night. The above meeting was attended by a large crowd of visitors from Te Arolia, Waikato, Thames and Auckland. The meeting was fairly successful, but was marred by protests in the Cup and Steeplechase and the falling of four horses at the first jump in the latter. Two—Kelvin Grove and Robin Adair—were fatally injured. In the Cup St, Ona was first past the post, with St. Gordon second and Lillie third. A protest was entered against St. Ona on the grounds of being a defaulter and against St. Gordon for interference with other horses. After long consideration, it was decided to pay out on St, Ona, who returned her ten supporters £46 16s, but the stakes were impounded. In the Steeplechase, Dingo finished first, but missed the last hurdle in the straight and was disqualified, and the race was awarded to Woodcock. The greatest dissatisfaction was caused over the decision in the Cup. The public claimed that the machine should pay with the stakes. The following are the details of the racing : Maiden Plate, one mile. Puhia (6st7lb), 1 Try Me (6st 71b), - ... 2 Repetitition (83t 21b), ... 3 Won'easily. Cavalier was left at the post. Stockman led for the first round, Monk being second, Dingo third, and Woodcock last. The latter closed up in the second round, and coming in the last time round took the lead from the Monk and Woodcock, but the latter ran wide at the last jump and Dingo ran round the hurdle, and although he finished first, the race was awarded to Woodcock.
