This state of things has particularly affected fruit sales, and although we munaged to quit all lines of perishables, the market is very weak. This Btate of things we expect to improve about the middle of the current month. Potatoes and onions as last. Chaff depressed. Butter in great demand. Eggs, fresh, almost unprocurable. Bacon, scarce. All lines of fruit, excepting very prime dessert, are a little lower. Poultry and pigs same as last week. The bulk of bananas, per Tavinui, arrived in bad order, but the oranges were in splendid condition. FRUIT MARKEI. Messrs Laert and Co. report under date, Wellington, February 25th : Fruit : Although arrivals during the week have been on a much reduced scale, supplies of most lines are in excess of requirements. Pears and tomatoeß continue in exceedingly large supply, and values in consequence have declined materially Apples : In large supply. Choice dessert, 4s 6d to 5s 6d ; medium to good, 2s to 48 ; prime cookers, 2s 9d to 3s 9d ; inferior and moth-affected descriptions at relative rates ; choice Auckland half-cases (red), up to 4s 6d. Pears : The market during the past few days has been deluged with consignments, and values meantime are exceedingly low. We quote : Choice Australian William pears, 9s to 10s; good to prime, 7s to 8s ; Canterbury William pears, 5s to 7s ; medium to good, 3s to 4s 6d per case of 401 b ; Whangarei Bon Chretiens, choice, 4s to 4s 6d ; medium to good, 3s to 3s 6d per £-case of say 241 b. Hawke's Bay, choice, 3a to 4s; medium to good, 2s to 3s ; Nelson-grown, choice, 3s to 4s; medium to good, 2s to 2a 9d per J-oase. Peaches: Supplies decreasing and values improving. We quote : Choice Hawke's Bay-grown, 5s to 7s; good to prime, it to 4s 9d; choice Nelson, 6s to 7«; medium to good, 4s to 5s 9d per J-case ; choice Auckland, 6s 6dtoßs; medium, 4s 6d to 6a 6d. Plums: Values have an upward tendency. We quote: Diamond plums, 3s 6d to 4s 6d; Yellow Gages, 3a to 4s; Greengages, choice, 4s to ss; medium to good, 3s to 3s 6d; Pond's seedling, 3s to 4s per $-case of say 30 to 241 b.

The Otago Frdit and Produce Agenoy report under date—Dunedin, February 29. Immediately after date of last report fruit of all sorts came in with a tremendous rush, with the result that the market has become completely congested. Pears and tomatoes especially are in over supply, and hard to quit at any price. Nectarines : Full supply ; ljd to per lb. Pears :As indicated above, the market is completely overstocked. Growers cannot be too particular iu packing soft kinds to see that they are green when packed, as they ripen very quickly, and if sent away ripe often arrive here in a rotten condition. We quote prime New Zealand Bon Chretiens, 3s to 5s per case ; inferior kinds and bad-conditioned lots, Is to 2s 6d per case. Plums : Supplies excessive. Prime dessert sorts, 2d to 2Jd per lb ; prime bottling and cooking varieties, to 2d per lb ; inferior samples are hard to quit at any price. Apples : Prime green cookers in good demand at lid per lb ; Auckland consignments, bushel case, 4* to 4s 6d ; £-bußhel case, 2s to 2s 6d ; prime dessert sorts, 5s to 6s per case; inferior and moth-infected fruit is hard to sell at any price. Peaches : Heavy supply. Extra prime dessert sorts have realised „up to 4£d per lb. To-day's values, however, are : —Prime, 2£d to 3Jd per lb ; inferior to medium, ljd to 2d per lb. Northern consignments have realised 3a to 7s per box of 20 to 241 b, according to quality and condition. Apricots : Thcee arc nearly done. A large proportion this week have been very inferior, 2d to 4d per lb. Grapes : Prime samples have good demand at 8d to Is per lb. Northern consignments have mostly landed in bad condition.
