SPORTING.

SOUTH AUCKLAND RACES. The Waikato entries in conne-jtion with the South Auckland Racing Club's forthcoming meeting, were received by the Hon. Sec -(Mr A. J. Storey) last evening. They total IS, aud are considered highly satisfactory. The Auckland entries will not be to hand till Monday, when, no doubt, the number will be considerably increased. The full list will appear in our issue of Tuesday next. TAURANGA RACES. At the Tauranga Race Meeting, on Thursday, Mr R. Hanuon's Bellman romped in in the Hurdle Race, paying 17s. Snider, also owned by Mr irJaunon, was second in the Bay of Plenty Stakes to Lobelia, and ran a dead heat with Repetition in the Maiden Plate, the dividends being lis and 27s irrespectively. Winnie was third to Repetition aud St. Owen in the Pony Race, while The Monk acted as runner-up to Robin Adair in the Steeplechase. In the Cup race the rider of Li Grippe was forced on to the post at the quartermile distance, and came off, and Regalia following close on his heels, struck him fair on the chest. The unfortunate rider, Joe Stuart, of the Waikato, was at once brought into town. At latest advices young Stuart was lying in an unconscious state, the doctor attending him giving no hopes of recovery. As we received uo news of the unfortunate lad in our telegraphic communications last evening, we presume that he is still alive. TARANAKI RACES. The Taranaki races were continued on Thursday, The Auckland contingent were again successful. Waiorongomai won the Autumn Handicap, of £2OO, one mile and a-half, with Castashore a-length away second, naying the handsome diviend of £5 4s. Donneraile beat Bluejacket by a neck in the Farewell Handicap, of £SO, one mile, paying a dividend of £3 13s. OTAHUHU TROTTING RACES. The first day's racing in connection with the Otahuhu Trotting Club's meeting will be held at Potter's Paddock today.
