PAEROA JOTTINGS.
[By The Sentinel]. The Blind Musicians only met with moderate success in Paeroa on Saturday and Sunday. Those who did hear them were agreeably surprised at their cleverness. Saturday last being " Crown pay day," things were lively at Karangahake. Altogether, about £SOOO per month is paid in wages at Karangahake. A commencement has been made towards the erection of the second 100 stampers for the Waihi Company at (Vaikiuo. Men are now engaged preparing for tho foundations. This will be good news to mechanics, as a large body of men will be employed for a considerable time. The Northern Steamship Company have kindly given the use of the p.s. Patiki for a moonlight excursion, to take place about the 22nd inst., in aid of the public library funds, Considerable quantities of fruit are coming to hand, 200 cases per week coming from Waikato ; this, with local and Thames fruit, gluts the market. Plums are being sold from Id per lb ; peaches, Ud. The various business people have agreed to close en Saturday, instead of Thursday afternoon, on account of the Druids Sports. Some excitement was caused to-day when it became known that the Owharoa Syndicate had " struck " the reef, gold bearing stringers have been met for some time. I sincerely hope the reef will come up to expectations Local volunteers are fortuuate in having such oflieers as Major Kenny and Adjutant Porrit ; both gentlemen are popular. The erection ot a handsome residence has just been started for Mr Haszard, near the Public School. It is to be built of rimu and to contain 10 rooms.
We are experiencing very broken weather again, heavy rain having fallen all over the district.
