CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The above Committee met in the Borough Chambers, at Cambridge, on Thursday evening, at 730 p.m. There were present :—Messrs A. Bach (ohairman), Jas. Hally, C. Boyce and J. Ferguson. _ „,,. . Head Teachkk's Report.—This was favourable as regards the assistants, but it gave a list of Beveral children who had failed to attend the requisite number of times. One of the delinquents was a daughter of Mr C. Roberts, but that gentleman wrote that he had taken his child away in consequence of her having been unduly punished ; he also considered the home lessons too much for the child. After the holidays he intended sending her to a private school.—lt was resolved not to take an} action in the case of Mr Robert's child if she attended a private school.—The Chairman said Borne of the children mentioned had stayed away because of infectious complaints existing in the families, bub it had become the oustom for some of the children to commence the holidays before the proper time, and the Committee must stop that being done. The bad attendance at the close of the last quarter had caused th« head taaoher to lose £lO, and they must •ee that in future that did not occur. They must let it be known that at the close of the quarter the committee would be particularly striot in proceeding against the parents of all children who did not attend regularly, for not only did it rob the teacher, but it also left it open to the Board to deprive them of one of the assistants.—Messrs Boyce and Ferguson thought the home lessons were sometimes rather too much for the children.—The number on the roll last quarter was 232, and the average attendance 1717. _ , Ah Allkokd Encroachment.—Re the matter of an alleged encroachment on to Mr Howard's adjoining allotment, the Board forwarded a plan of the sohool f rounds, showing the measurements. — he Chairman and Mr Brooks were appointed a sub-committee to look into the matter and report at a future meet-

Edwards wrote asking for a share of the patronage of the committee, and enclosed a list of piiceß of 3chool requisites.—On the motion of Mr Hally, seconded by Mr Ferguson, it was resolved to call tenders from the two local men for the supply of school stationery, etc. The Exhibition.- Mr White, secretary for the Hamilton West School Committee, wrote asking that endeavours be made to get the children admitted to the Auckland Exhibition free of charge, and that an excursion be arranged.— The chairman stated the Exhibition authorities had refused to let the children in free, but if anything was done in the matter it would be in conjunction with the Hamilton schools.
