NEWCASTLE ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the above Board was held at the office, Ohote, on Wednesday. Present: Messrs P. Corboy (Chairman), W. Washer and E. C. Shepherd. Roll.—Mr Jas. Vallaley wrote requesting that his name be put on the roll for Lot 170, Pukete, in place of Airs C. Watchorn.—Application granted. Bridges, The Chairman reported that two bridges at the south end of the district had collapsed since the last meeting, also that the stringers in the Blackwater Bridge were decayed, and he had ordered new timbers for the above works, the timber to be either totara or heart of kauri.—The Chairman's action was confirmed. Opening Road. —Mr F. Perkins waited on the Board re opening the back road into his farm, as he had no other outlet.—The Chairman was re quested to inspect the road and report at next meeting, and was authorised to have any small works in the way of cleaving, etc., done forthwith. Cemetery.— The Chairman brought up the matter of Section 785, Pukete, recently vested in the Board as a cemetery reserve.—The clerk was directed to ascertain whether the land, which is 'situated in the Whatawhata township near the bridge, could be leased by the Board, as the rent would be useful in maintaining the fencing and otherwise improving the present cemetery. Stoppage of Roads,—The Clerk reported that all the steps in connection with the stoppage of roads had been taken, and it was decided to call the necessary meeting of ratepajers. Tenders.—l he following tenders were dealt with:—No. 1 contract—W. Mawhinney, earthwork 9d per yard, building bridges (including cartiug timber) £1 5s each (accepted) ; Wm. McCutcheon, earthwork 9d per yard, building bridges (without carting) £1 each. Mo. 2 contract—Thos. Jones, earthwork Is per yard (accepted); A. M. Ferguson, informal tender. No. 3 contract—R. J. Miller, formation 3s per chain, earthwork Is per yard (accepted). Accounts.—The followiug accounts were passed:—Jas. Wathen, 5s 6d ; E. de C. Drury, £3 10s; J. Frear, £2 2s 2d.
