PUKERIMU SCHOOL PICNIC.
o— The parents of the children attending the above school usually make the breaking up for the Christmas holidays the occasion for having a general jollification, when children, parents and friends meet together and have a " real good time." This year was no exception to the rule, for on Thursday last a most enjoyable picnic was held in Mr John Fisher's paddock, opposite his residence at Pukerimu, when not only those above mentioned were present, but also several residents of Cambridge and Taotaoroa, who were heartily welcomed. Sports and all kinds of games were indulged in by the juniors, under the able direction of Messrs J. Anderson and R. Fisher, and their parents were well pleased and entertained to see their offspring enjoying themselves. The young men and maidens also had a good time, and appeared to thoroughly enjoy the day's outing. Most of them assisted the seniors in attending to the commissariat department, but tnaay of them found time to have a turn at the old game, which has lately been designated " mashing." "We have often dilated upon the excellence of the viands prepared by the Pnkerimu ladies, when they cater for a festive gathering, but on the occasion above referred to we are assured they even surpassed their previous efforts. _ In the evening a social aud dance was given in the school-room which proved quite as enjoyable as the picnic. The following items were rendered in an excellent manner:—Piano duet, -'Sleigh Bells," Misses Stiirges : song, " Killarney," Miss Dean; trio "Tickling" Miss Dean, Messrs Perkins and Wallace (encored) ; song, Miss Maud Sturges, uicely sung but we did not catch the name of it; song, " The Holy City," Miss Ecca "Wallace, sweetly sung. This young lady promiats to be a good vocalist; song, " The Awful Little Scrub," Mr Perkins ; song, "Summer Showers," Miss Hilda Davis, pleasingly rendered; song, " Happy Be Thy Dreams," Mr U. Caley ; song, " There's a Tavern in the Town," Mr "W. Wallace. Mr John Fisher thanked all who had in any way contributed to make the meeting a success, after which dancing was commenced and kept up with spirit for several hours.
