Cambridge, August 22nd, 1898. 23/8 \0 STAND -THIS SEASON AT _ MORRtNSVILLE, The Thoroughbred Horse, LEOLANTIS, By Leolinus (imp.)-dam Atlantis (imp). Leolantis is a chestnut horse, ten years old, stands about 16 hands 1 inch, and is strongly built in every way and possessed of mmcular power. As a three-year-old Leolantis easily won the Auckland Guineas of 1890, of 150sovs, one mile, in IT47A, and the same day, one race afterwards, in the Prince of Wales Handicap, one mile and a half, carrying 7st 91b, was ' just beaten by Cissy, Bst lib (sister to Trenton), in 2.43 J. In December of the same year, carrying Bst 9lb, he ran a close third in the Auckland Railway Handicap: time, 1.16. The same day lie won the Christmas Handicap of 100 sovs, one mile and a quarter, carrying Bst 31b (as a three-year-old), and beating six otters; (time, 2 12. .Next day Leoiantis ran third in the Auckland Derby, and was only raced once after that through meeting with a mishap. However, Leolantis during the time he was on the turf proved that he could gallop. This is not to be wondered at when his excellent breeding is taken into consideration. A glance at the following table will quickly disclose that he comes from a splendid family : Stookwell, The Baron Irish Birdca er won 2000 gs& W*nStLeger Echidna St. Leger Pocahontas Glencoe Mar.peesa Orlando Touchstone l | I Selina Vulture | I'i Lady of Sil- Velocipede verkeld Well Emma 11. The stock sired by him are big, ttroDg and active colts. His oldest gets are four-year-olds, aud one of them, Atlantic, won hurdle races at Avondale, Takapuna, *ud the Hurdles and a flat race at the late Gisborne meeting. Atlantic and Leo (who broke his leg) are the only hopes sired by Leolantis that have been tried. However, being half-brother to such a stud success as St. Leger should alone be sufficient recommendation for Leolantis, and, together with his size and substance, he should prove invaluable to breeders for getting racehorses, cross-country horses', hunters, and a good style of carriage or hackney horse. Terms-Single mare, £4 4s; two or more, the property of one owner, £3 10s. Grax'ng, Is per week. Every care takeu, but no responsibility. For further particulars apply to FRANK MARSHALL, Owner.
