A DEPUTATION representing the Trade Union Congress, asked Sir Michael Hicks-Beach, Chancellor of the Exchequer, to allow the unlimited investment of union funds in the Post Office Savings Bank. Sir M. HicksBeach replied that it would be a disadvantage to widely extend the amount of deposits which were growing so enormously. In the event of a finanoial panic the withdrawals would seriously injure the national credit. .'
