Cambridge, August 22nd, 1898. 23/8 STAND THIS SEASON AT MORRINSVILLE, The Thoroughbred Horse, • LEOLANTIS, By Leolinus (imp.)-dam Atlantis (imp). Leolantis is a chestnut horse, ten years old, stands about 16 hands 1 inch, and is strongly built in every way and possessed of great muscular power. As a three-year-old Leolantis easily won the Auckland Guineas of 1890, of 150sovs, one mile, in J.47J, and the same day, one race afterwards, in the Prince of Wales Handicap, one mile and a half, carrying 7st 9lb, was just beaten by Cissy, B>t lib (sister to Trenton), in 2.43 J. In December of the same year, carrying Bst 91b, he ran a close third iu the Auckland Railway Handicap; time, 1.16. The same day he won the Christmas Handicap.of 100 sovs. one mile and a quarter, carrying Sst 3lb (as a three-year-old), and beatiDg six otlHrs; (time, 2 12. Next day Leolantis ran third in the Auckland Derby, and was only raced once after that through meeting with a mishap. However, Leolantis during the time he was on the turf proved that he could gallop. This is not to be wondcied at when his excellent breeding is taken into consideration. A glance at the following table will quickly disclose tint he conies from a splendid family : Stockwell, .The Baron Irish Birdca er won 2000gs&,w'n St. Leger Echidna I St. Leger »; Pocahontas Gleneoe Orlando Touchstone Vulture Lady of Sil- Velocipede verkeld Well Emma 11. I Bess By Leolinus (a grandson of Stockwell), who is the sire of Tit, Radames, Leoriua, Tressec, Satyr, St. Innes (Dunedin Cup winner), Leopold (Auckland Cup winner), from Atlantis, the dam of St. Leger (champion sire of New Zealand), it will be seen that Leolantis comes from a most successful strain of blood. The stock sired by him are big, strong and active colt 3. His oldest gets are four-year-olds, and one of them, Atlantic, won hurdle races at Avondale, Takapuna, mid the Hurdles and a flat race at the late Gisborne meeting. Atlantic and Leo (who broke his leg) are the only horses sired by Le'jlantis that have been tried. However, being half-brother to such a stud success as St. Leger should alone be sufficient recommendation for Leolantis, and, together with his size and substance, he should prove invaluable to breeders for getting racehorses, cross-country horse?, hunters, and a good style of carriage or hackney horse. Terms-Single mare, £4 4s; two or more, the property of one owner, £3 10s. Grazmg, Is per week. Every care taken, but no responsibility. For further particulars apply to FRANK MARSHALL, Owner.
