NEWCASTLE ROAD BOARD.

Tbe monthly meeting of the above Board wan held at the office, Ohote, on Wednesday. Present: : Messrs Gorboy (chairman), Bycroft, Washer and E. C. Shepherd. . MINDTES.—The minutes were read and, with' one exception, confirmed.- , This referred to the letter forwarded at the last meeting by Mr Laxou, and, being inserted through a misunderstanding, was expunged. , Sundbv Woeks. —The Chairman stated that he had been unable to attend to the road works authorised at the last meeting of the Board, but tenders would shortly be called for them.—The Chairman reported having interviewed Mr Spragg re the road deviation at Te Kowhai, but, though willing to give the land, Mr Spragg was unable to grant a good title, but suggested that as other rate's could not be expended on the road, that the work should be carried out on . the co-operative principle.—Mr Exelby waited on the Board respecting some needed cuttings on the road near his farm. As the road in question formed the boundary between the Hamilton and Newcastle districts, it was decided that, if the Hamilton riding contributes half the cost of the work, and refunds the balance of rates due to the Newcastle Board on Mr Exelby's land, tbe Board will undertake the work.—Mr W. Laxon waited on the Board with a request to have some cutting on the road near his farm.—The chairman recommended that the present cutting be widened about three feet, and the embankment also widened.—lt was decided to do the work, tenders to be in by the next meeting. The Roll.—Messrs Goodfellow Bros.' wrote requesting that their names be removed from the roll for Lot 186, Pukete, and that of Mr C Limmer put on.—Request granted.—Mr A. J. Park applied to have his name placed on the roll for Lot 20, Whatawhata.—As this involved a re-valuation of the property, the matter was left in the hands of the chairman. Road Deviation.—The Chief Surveyor, Auckland, forwarded approved plana of the road deviation. —The clerk was directed to have the matter completed. Bonfkey's Hill. The chairman brought up the matter of road-cutting at Bonfrey'a Hill, but, as it was thought that'the expenditure was greater than the finances would at present permit, the matter was held over. Pukete Road.—Mr Bycroft drew attention to some holes in the Pukete road, and it was decided to have a couple of days' work done on it. Accounts.—The following accounts were passed for payment :—Jas Watten, 17a 6d ; G. Washer, 8s ; A. Cran3ton, £3 16s 9d ; T. Jones, £l2 14s 3d ; J. Fullerton, 8s; Geo. Latrobe, 18s 6d; F. A. Wilcock, £3 8s 3d.
