The Wesleyau District Synod has passed the following resolution :—" That we recommend the Conference that a Sunday be appointed on which sermons shall be preached in all our churches against the evils of garnbliug ; that anti-gambling leagues (both adult and junior) be formed in all our circuits, and that suitable pledge cards be prepared for members' leagues." There is a considerable demand for land in the Wellington District under the improved farm system of settlement, by which settlers taking up land are paid for clearing and grassing, the cost being afterwards added to the capital value of the laud. The Land Board has decided to set apart portions of the Awarua Block to meet the demand.
