PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.
ANNUAL MEETING. Present : Crs. Chepmell, Gavin,, Aitken, Farmer and McCavv. ;? ■ This being the annual meeting the Clerk took the chair and called upon the Councillors to elect a chairman. Cr. Gavin proposed that Mr W. P. Chepmell be re-appointed chairman. He spoke eulogistically of Mr Chepmell's services as chairman in past years. The motion was seconded by Cr. McCaw and carried unanimously. Cr. Chepmell, in taking the chair, thanked the Councillors for the honour they had done him, after which the Council proceeded with the OBDINAEY MEETING. Crs. Hunt and Herries applied for and were granted leave of absence. Thomson's Track.—Cr. Herries reported that he bad seen the Minister of Mines re getting an engineer to report on the condition of the road before it was taken over by the county. The Minister replied that no engineer was at present available, but as soon as there was he would advise the Council. Members of Hospital Clerk reported that according to Gazette notice the Piako County and Te Aroha Borough were grouped together, the former body haviDg four votes and the latter one vote in the election of three members.—Messrs Chepmell, Hunt and Mills were unanimously elected to represent the county on the Hospital Board, the two former representing the county and the latter the Te Aroha Borough.
Works at Gordon. —Foreman Wattam reported that he had inspected the localities where the Gordon Settlers' Association had suggested certain works to be undertaken. He recommended the formation of 13 chains and about 38 chains of gravelling, also eight chaina of new drain and a small bridge. He thought it would be a mistake to interfere with the old drain as suggested by Gordon settlers. He thought this should be left as at psesent, and if so the cost would be reduced by one-third. Several specifications prepared by the Foreman for these works were approved by the Council, and tenders ordered to be called. —Mr Montague, of Gordon, was in attendance and asked the Council to repair a piece of road leading from Newsome's towards the creamery, towards cost of which the Gordon Settlers' Association offered a subsidy of £ for £.—The Council agreed to do this and instructed the Foreman to prepare specifications for the work, tenders to be returnable within a fortnight, and to be dealt with by Crs. Herries, Farmer and Gavin. Orb's Contbaot. —Foreman Wattam reported that J. Orr had not carried out his Contract No. 93, according to specifications. He had not taken off some of the high ridges, and had put on 12 yards of sand per chain insttad of 15, besides missing one bad place.—The Council decided that Orr must complete his contract to specifications before being paid ; and also that he be informed that the time penalty was running on. TENDERS.—The following were received :—No. 95, Cambridge - Napier Road : W. Stanley, 5s 6d per chain (ac> cepted). No. 96, Cordon - Wahavoa Road : A. J. Forrest, 5s lid per chain ; J. Hill, 5s 6d ; and B. Montague, 3s lid (accepted). Waiorongo.uai Bridge.—G. Wattam was instructed to prepare specifications for repairs to this bridge. Waieakau Bridge.—Repairs to this bridge as detailed by the Foreman, were authorised. Tirad Station Road. Foreman Mahood reported that about 15 or 20 chains require doing up and gravelling. As it is the only road to the station, he suggested that the Government be asked to do the work this summer, especially as they had done it before. —Council decided to request the Government to carry out the work. Gordon Drains.—A latter was received from Mr John McLeod, asking Council to get the drains and outlets along the County Road cleared out this season.—Ordered to be received. Goldfiklds Rkvknue.— The Warden's Office, Thames, advised that £34 Is 9d, being revenue for period ended 10th September, IS&S, had been placed to Council's credit. BRIARS on Road. —The Council decided to again write to Mr E. F. Kochc insisting on his removing all briars from his road frontage, otherwise the Council would do it at his expense.
