The Waikato Argus Office, Monday WAIKATO MARKETS.
Mr Hunter Reports.—At Ohaupo on Tuesday the yards were completely crammed with a lot ot real Rood cattle, fully 900 being penned. Buyers were in attendance for all classes and nearly every beast sold whilst at auction ; very few remained unsold, my principal buyers being from Shaftesbury, Wairakau, Gordon Settlement, Manawaru, and Hikutaia, nearly 400 head going in that direction, also a large number of fat sheep and ewes and lambs were purchased for Hikutaia. There was a good demand for dairy cows, and bidding more spirited than for some months past. Empty cows and heifers sold very freely. Prices were as follows :—Dairy cows, from £3 10s to £4 5s ; yearling steers, up to 30s : mixed sexes, 18s to 25s ; one and a-ha.f and two-year-old steers, £1 15s to £2 12s ; three-year-old steers, £3 5s to £3 17s 6d ; four-year-old bullocks, up to £5 6s ; empty cows, very forward, £2 15s to £3 lis ; ordinary young empty cows, £2 to £2 12s 6d ; fat cows and heifers, £3 12s 6d to £4 10s; ewes and lambs, 8s to 13s ; hoggets, 7s 6d to 10s ; fat sheep, 9s to lis.— At Cambridge, on Saturday 19th, about 300 head of cattle were yarded ; all wellbred and good. Buyers were in attendance, and only one pen of 13 head remained unsold. Prices were : Dairy cows, up to £4 ; empty cows, £2 to £3 6s ; yearlings (mixed sexes), 17s to 24s ; weaned calves, three to four months old, lis to 12s 6d ; 12 to 15-months steers, up to 30s ; well-bred two-year-old steers, £2 15s to £2 18s ; tat cows, about 20 sold, from £3 10s to £4 15s ; young pigs, 10s to 13s ; fowls, Is Id to Is fid ; buggy, £lO 10s ; spring cart, £5 15s ; a few horßes sold at low prices. Large supplies of vegetables to hand and disposed of at satisfactory prices. Mkssrs Alex. Aitken and Co.'s Report.—Heavy consignments of produce came to hand to-day end during the week, and found ready sale at satisfactory prices. Butter is plentiful, value unchanged. Eggs, abundant supply, price lower. New Kidneys of good quality in demand at from £9 10s to £11; round sorts, £7 10s to £9. Maize unchanged. Oats, lower. Chaff, demand poor. Bacon and hams, firm at late rates. Fruit, supply limited. Gooseberries, more plentiful; small, 2Jd to 2|d ; large, 3d to per lb. Poultry, good supply; prices Tery satisfactory. Pigs, the demand remains good and values in favour of the vendors. The following are the prices : Potatoes : Canterbury, £8 to £9 ; new kidneys, Id to ljd lb ; round, £7 to £9. HAWERA MARKETS. • The Egmont Farmers' Union (Ltd.) report :--Hawera, 17th November, 1898. —At Manaia on the 16th inst. we had a fair entry of stock. The attendance was large and bidding spiri f ed, resulting in nearly every pen of stock changing hands before leaving ihe yards. The lines advertised without reserve came forward and elicited keen competition and realised satisfactory prices. We quote : Three to 3|-year-old steers, £3 5s to £3 17s 6d ; store cows, £1 18s to £2 8a ; empty heifers, £1 5s to £1 lis ; 12 to ISmonths steers, £1 3s 6d to £1 13s ; dairy cows and heifers, £2 17s 6d to £3 5s ; bulls, £1 10s to £0 ss. Sheep : Ewes, fat and forward, 9s 2d ; hoggets, 12s 2d.
