NGARUAWAHIA.

Mercer Regatta.—Considerable interest is being manifested in the Mercer Regatta, and a good number of people from Ngaruawaliia will visit Mercer on regatta day in spite of the disappointment amongst the members of the local rowiug club in being debarred from competing in the rowing events. Had the Mercer committee adhered to their original intention of having these races rowed in inrigeed gigs, as waß advertised at first in the Herald, the Ngaruawaliia Club would have competed, although on occasions in the past it has never distinguished itself when it has met other clubs. However, it is to be hoped that the members will not rest until they have procured a clinker-built outrigged gig to enable them at least to compete at their own regatta, The Ladies' Rowiug Club is sending two crews to Mercer, and they are now in active practice. Debating Society.—The present session of the Debating Society will be brought to a close on Thursday (to-day) by a Christy Minstrel and variety entertainment. The first part will consist of songs etc. by the best available local talent, and for the second part the Waipa Minstrels will give their select entertainment. At the conclusion there will be the usual dance. Advertising.—The Ngaruawaliia Regatta Committee are adopting rather a novel method of advertising. All the business people in the township are using envelopes, bearing the Regatta stamp, " Remember Ngaruawahia Regatta, 18th of March, 1899," and dozens of these letteis are leaving the township daily, and will undoubtedly find their way into all parts of the Auckland district.— (Own Correspondent).
