NEWCASTLE ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held at the office, Ohote, on Wednesday. Present : Messrs Corboy (Chairman), Washer and Shep« herd.
Road Work.—Mr E. de C. Drury waited on the Board with approved plans of roads to be opened, closed, and lands to be taken under the Public Works Act.—lt was decided to forward the plans to the Lauds and Survey Office, Wellington. In connection with the roads to be closed, the clerk was directed to have the necessary advertisements put in. An Ootlet.—Mr F. Perkins waited on the Board in connection with the proposed taking of land for a road, to enable him »o reach the County road without trespassing on private property. —lt was decided to defer the matter until Mr Perkins put his application in writing,. Land Grant.—A memo, was received from Messrs W. Aitken and Fullerton Bros, agreeing to present sufficient land for purposes of road deviation through Lot 124, Horitiu.
A Personal Matter,—Mr W. Laxon forwarded a letter to the chairman of the Board, but it was decided that the matter was a personal one, and beyond the province of the Board. Correspondence.— Some correspondence betweeu the Board and Mr Spragg, re taking sufficient land for a road near the Te Kowhai creamery, was read, from which it appeared that the deeds were in London, but Mr Spragg was willing to give permission to take a road.—The Chairman explained that, until the land was gazetted a public road, the Board had no power to expend the rates upon it. The matter was deferred, the chairman to see Mr Spragg on his next visit to the Waikato. Blackett's Bridge.—The Chairman reported having, in company with Messrs Fullerton and Bycroft, inspected the above bridge, and recommended that collar-braces be put under the bridge to strengthen it, and that it be decked with 10ft. planks. It was decided to obtain the timber forthwith.
Road Improvement.—Mr Shepherd drew attention to the necessity of some improvement upon the road at the southern end of district. It was decided to have a small cutting made, the chairman to lay off the work and call tenders by next meetiDg. Accounts.—The following accounts were passed for payment:—E. de C.
