Cambridge, August 22nd, 1898. 23/8 HO STAND THIS SEASON AT MORRINSVILLE, The Thoroughbred Horse, LEOLANTIS, By Leolinus (imp.)—dam Atlantis (imp). Leolantis is a chestnut ten years old, stands about 16 hands 1 inch, and is strongly built in every way and possessed of great nnifcular power. As a three-year-old Leolantis easily won the Aucklaud Guineas of 1890, of 150sovs, one mile, in 1.475. arid the same day, one race afterwards, in the Prince of Wales Handicap, one mile and a half, carrying 7st 9lb, was just beaten by Cissy, Bst lib ( sister to Trenton), in 2.43|. In December of the same year, carrying Bst 9lb, he ran a close third in the Auckland Railway Handicap: time, 1.16. The same day lie won the Christmas Handicap of 100 sovs. one mile and a quarter, carrying Bst.3lb (as a three-year-old), and beating six others ; |time, 2 12. Next day Leolantis ran third in the Auckland Derby, and was only raced once after that through meeting with a mishap. However, Leolantis during the time he was on the turf proved that he could gallon. This is not to be wondered at when his excellent breeding is taken into consideration. A glance at the following table will quickly disclose that he comes from a splendid family : I Stockwell, The Baron Irish Birdca'er won 2000 gs& w'n St.Legcr Echidna I L' Pocahontas Glcncoe Marpessa Orlando Touchstone ' Iselina Vulture Lady of Sil- Velocipede verkeld Well Emma H. The stock sired by him are big, strong and active colts. His oldest gets are four-year-olds, and one of them, Atlantic, won hurdle races at Avondale, Takapuna, and the Hurdles and a flat race at the late Gisborne meeting. Atlantic and Leo (who broke his leg) are the only horses sired by Leolantis that have been tried. However, being half-brother to such a stud success as St. Leger should alone be sufficient recommendation for Leolantis, and, together with his size and substance, he should prove invaluable to breeders for getting racehorses, cross-country horses, hunters, and a good style of carriage or hackney horse. Terms—Single mare, £4 4s; two or more, the property of one owner, £3 10s. Grazng, Is per week. Every care taken, but no responsibility. For further particulars apply to FRANK MARSHALL, Owner.
